Our Story

MateClub was founded in 2024 by Angus Nickols and Manu Obejero. Having spent time living in Argentina, our co-founder Angus fell in love with mate and its rich culture. Inspired by this experience, he returned to the UK with a mission: to introduce and grow this incredible tradition back home. Upon returning to Argentina a year later, Angus met Manu, an Argentine who too had a passion for the growth of mate around the world.

Whilst on a trip, the two began discussing mate and quickly came to an agreement that they would begin a business together. Here MateClub was born and ideas began to fly. Three months later, the first shipments of stock arrived in the UK and we were away!

Having Manu as part of the business has been imperitive for the development of MateClub. Manu brings a wealth of knowledge of both mate and Argentine customs. Being based in Buenos Aires allows us to ensure that all products are thoroughly inspected before being shipped on to the UK. His contacts and ability to identify the best products enable MateClub to offer only the highest quality items, direct from Argentine manufacturers.
